Jornal Amplexo was created to be a meeting place. A space open to children, teenagers, families, teachers and everyone who is part of our community and believes that knowledge can be shared in a way that is light, responsible and committed to the common good.
More than reporting the news, we want to bring to light ideas, projects, discoveries and stories that often have simple beginnings: a question asked in class, a spark of curiosity, a conversation between classmates or the wish to change something in the world around us.
Our newspaper is made by the Amplexo community. We want it to be a lively, diverse and welcoming space, where different interests and ways of learning all find a place.
When students realize they have something to say
Giving children and teenagers a voice doesn’t just mean letting them speak. It means listening carefully, recognizing their ideas and showing them that what they think can also make a difference to the community.
When students research a topic, interview someone, organize their findings or write about a project, they aren’t just completing an assignment. They are learning to observe more closely, select information, build arguments and communicate what they have understood.
Along the way, they develop important skills:
- they expand their reading, writing and research abilities;
- they learn to organize and present ideas;
- they strengthen their autonomy and critical thinking;
- they see themselves as people capable of producing knowledge;
- they develop a sense of responsibility for what they communicate;
- they realize that their participation can inspire and help others.
It is truly beautiful to witness the moment a child understands that they don’t have to simply receive information: they can also investigate, create, teach and transform.
Projects that find a place to grow
Jornal Amplexo aims to welcome work from many different areas and interests. Its pages will have room for:
- scientific investigations;
- mathematical discoveries and challenges;
- essays, poems, short stories and other literary works;
- art, culture and technology projects;
- actions related to ocean literacy and caring for the planet;
- interviews and first-hand accounts;
- social projects and initiatives for the common good;
- important events in the Amplexo community.
We want each new issue to also be a portrait of what our students are living, learning and building.
Not every contribution has to be fully formed from the start. A small idea can grow with research, guidance and teamwork. That is also what the newspaper is for: helping good projects find their way, their readers and new possibilities.
A truly collective effort
Although the students are the protagonists, the thoughtful presence of an educator is essential. It is the teacher’s role to guide the research, encourage new questions, help organize ideas and support each student in finding their own way of expressing themselves.
That is why I want to give special thanks to Raquel Morais, the teacher who supervises and leads the project. Her care, her availability and her belief in what each student can achieve make this work possible.
Raquel follows every piece of work with attention and sensitivity, without taking away what matters most to the students: authorship. Her guidance helps turn curiosity into research, ideas into writing and projects into real contributions to the whole community.
We want to build bridges between learning and life, between individual discoveries and what can benefit others.
Our invitation is open: bring your questions, projects, writing, research, experiences and ideas. Share what you have learned, and also what you still want to understand.
May this be a newspaper where everyone can see themselves, take part and contribute. A space to inform, learn, inspire and do good.
Because when children realize that their voice has value, they also begin to understand that they can use it to transform the world around them.
Jornal Amplexo: a hug in every word.
